Description
The Tomahawk program, guided by the Navy, focuses on maintaining and enhancing the long-range precision-strike capabilities of the Tactical Tomahawk (TACTOM) missile system. This initiative emphasizes procuring Block V and Va variants to improve responsiveness and flexibility. These missiles feature advanced capabilities such as in-flight retargeting, loitering over battlefields, and enhanced GPS functionalities. The program supports the Marine Corps' Long Range Fires (LRF) initiative by providing these advanced missiles through common contracts managed by the Navy Tomahawk Program Office.

A key objective is to ensure a steady production rate to meet operational demands. For FY 2025, the plan includes acquiring new TACTOMs, focusing on Maritime Strike Tomahawk (BLK Va) variants. This procurement is essential for fielding to the Long Range Missile (LMSL) battery and requires a significant lead time. The program aims to sustain a minimum production rate through the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP), with combined procurement efforts across various branches including the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and approved Foreign Military Sales (FMS) cases.

The program also addresses obsolescence issues by funding efforts to mitigate production challenges related to avionics, electrical systems, and structural components. This involves developing alternate materials and replacing outdated parts with current technologies. Additionally, support equipment funding is allocated for TACTOM flight test equipment upgrades and cybersecurity enhancements necessary for software development.

The Tomahawk program's goals align with maintaining a robust long-range strike capability while ensuring that production rates meet strategic requirements across multiple defense branches. Collaboration between different military services and international partners underscores the importance of this program in achieving broader defense objectives.
