2034A - Procurement of Ammunition, Army
Description
The Signals, All Types program within the Army's procurement activities focuses on acquiring various signaling and countermeasure devices essential for both training and combat operations. The program aims to enhance battlefield communication and safety through the procurement of hand-held signals and advanced aircraft countermeasures. These devices are crucial for signaling, illumination, and protection against threats such as surface-to-air missiles.
One of the primary objectives is to maintain a robust inventory of hand-held signals, including the Red Star Cluster M158, White Star Cluster M159, White Parachute Flare M127A1, and Green Star Cluster M125A1. These pyrotechnic devices provide effective signaling and illumination capabilities on the battlefield. The goals for FY 2025 include acquiring units of the Red Star Cluster M158 to support annual training requirements and build a war reserve inventory.
Additionally, the program emphasizes developing next-generation aircraft countermeasures like the RF (Passive) Flare XM20 and Infrared Flare XM215. These countermeasures protect Army aircraft from advanced missile threats by providing coverage across multiple frequency bands. The FY 2025 plan includes procuring units of the RF (Passive) Flare to bolster war reserve stocks.
The program also supports training with items like the Smoke Pot Practice M8, used for creating smoke screens during exercises. This item aids in concealing troop movements and enhancing operational security during training scenarios. The FY 2025 plan allocates resources for acquiring smoke pots to meet these training needs while ensuring readiness for potential combat situations.
