Description
The ASW Range Support program, managed by the Navy, focuses on enhancing Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities through test and training tracking equipment. This initiative supports both domestic and international operations, ensuring accurate tracking of Fleet training exercises and torpedo firings for effective reconstruction and analysis. The program's infrastructure includes key ranges such as the Southern California Offshore Range (SCORE), Barking Sands Tactical Underwater Range (BARSTUR), and the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC).
A primary objective is to maintain and upgrade the Underwater Tracking Range Equipment (UTRE) systems. These systems are essential for tracking naval exercises at various test and evaluation ranges, including AUTEC and SCORE. The program involves procuring new equipment and modernizing existing systems to meet current operational requirements. This includes production engineering efforts aimed at enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of these tracking systems.
Another significant component is the MK28 Service Weapon Target Test (SWTT), which provides a critical capability for testing torpedo warheads' explosive trains. Resources allocated to this aspect ensure that stationary target equipment, such as MK28 targets, is procured and modernized to support service weapons tests. These tests are vital for verifying the functionality of both lightweight and heavyweight torpedoes used by the Navy.
ASW Range Support plays a crucial role in maintaining naval readiness by providing advanced tracking capabilities and ensuring that testing equipment is up-to-date. Through continuous improvement projects, including product enhancements for fixed and portable range equipment, the program aims to support effective undersea warfare training and evaluation activities across various naval platforms.
