Background
Virginia Tech is seeking an Architectural/Engineering firm to provide full design services for the renovation and expansion of the College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital. This project aims to enhance the facility's capabilities to meet the growing demands of veterinary education and care, aligning with Virginia Tech's strategic initiatives for institutional excellence and global impact.

Work Details
The selected firm will provide comprehensive design services including: Pre-planning studies, Schematic Design, Preliminary Design, Working Drawings, and Construction Administration. The project involves renovating approximately 25,000 gross square feet (GSF) and constructing an additional 25,000 GSF for a total of 50,000 GSF. Key programmatic areas include:

- Renovation of Small Animal Services with modules for Surgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology, and Clinical Pathology.
- Addition of service modules for Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Theriogenology.
- Community Practice & Emergency Services Addition to accommodate emergency services and isolation modules.
- Renovation of Intermediate Care/Intensive Care areas including ICU Suite and Radiology rounds room.
- Renovation of Small Animal Surgery Complex to provide additional operating rooms.
- Renovation for Physical Therapy & Pharmacy spaces.

The project will also incorporate accessible design principles, stormwater management strategies, and energy-efficient systems.

Period of Performance
The contract period includes various phases with substantial completion expected by May 1, 2028. Key milestones include:

- A/E RFP Issued: September 26, 2024
- A/E Responses Due: October 28, 2024
- Working Drawings Complete: April 8, 2026

Place of Performance
The contract work will be performed at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University campus located in Blacksburg, Virginia.
