Matthews Mowing

Background
The Virginia Department of Forestry is seeking bids for lawn care services at its Matthews State Forest property. The goal of this contract is to establish a fixed price for these services, which will be performed at two locations in Galax, Virginia, separated by U.S. Highway 58.

Work Details
The contractor will provide comprehensive lawn care services including:

- Mowing all turf areas once per week (maximum of 38 cuts during the contract period).
- Trash pick-up before mowing.
- Trimming grass around trees and fixtures.
- Blowing grass off parking lots and sidewalks.
- Ensuring all concrete and asphalt areas are weed-free.

Mowers without bags must be used to leave clippings on grass areas for decomposition. Clippings must be removed from hard surfaces immediately and disposed of at an approved facility if not reused as mulch. The contractor must supply all necessary tools and fuel, maintain a neat appearance of the turf (mowed to three inches), protect existing cultivated plants and shrubs, and provide a certificate of insurance listing the Virginia Department of Forestry as an additional insured party. Compliance with regulations regarding drug use and firearms on state property is mandatory.

Period of Performance
The contract period is from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, with performance scheduled from March 15 to October 31 each year. There are four optional one-year renewals available.

Place of Performance
Services will be performed at two locations in Galax, Virginia: 200 Jacks Orchard Road and 106 Forestry Lane.
