212-18481-001 Heating Plant Boiler Replacement

Background
Virginia State University (VSU) is seeking to prequalify contractors for the Heating Plant Boiler Replacement project. This project aims to enhance campus safety, security, energy reduction, and system reliability. It involves replacing the existing Water Tube Boiler (Boiler #4) with two new 600 Hp 150 psig Fire Tube Steam Boilers that will be dual fuel (gas & #2 oil) fired. The new boilers will be integrated into the existing steam and condensate distribution systems.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Demolish and remove existing Boiler #4 along with associated piping, electrical systems, and controls.
2. Retain the platform at the rear of Boiler #4 while demolishing all equipment on it.
3. Install two new 150 psig boilers on new or extended boiler pads; rework piping to accommodate new boiler locations.
4. Modify electrical service at MCC as per contract drawings to support new boilers.
5. Extend concrete pad for Boiler #3 and demolish existing pad for Boiler #4 to pour a new pad at the same height as Boiler #3's pad.
6. Provide structural supports for piping from the floor.
7. Retain existing blowdown separator and associated piping and controls.
8. Connect new boilers to the existing SCADA system in the steam plant control room, mapping points as specified in the specifications.

Period of Performance
The project is expected to begin bidding in February 2025 with a total duration of 365 calendar days for completion.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at Virginia State University located at 21225 University Avenue.
