Arl: Special Projects Building (SPB)

Background
The University of Texas at Austin, through its Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) department, is soliciting statements of qualifications for professional services related to the design and construction of a new Special Projects Building (SPB) for the Applied Research Laboratories (ARL).

The ARL is a Department of Defense University-Affiliated Research Center focused on enhancing national security through research in acoustics, electromagnetics, and information sciences. This project aims to comply with federal security requirements and specific construction standards.

Work Details
The project involves the design and construction of a new Special Projects Building (SPB), expected to be between 10,000 to 15,000 gross square feet. Key components include:
- Demolition of existing ARL Modular buildings T-500 and 189 and a covered walkway.
- Construction of a classified section with offices, meeting spaces, and workspaces that have no windows and feature STC-rated doors and walls.
- An unclassified area for support functions such as a lobby, vestibule, restrooms, janitorial space, break room, mechanical rooms, electrical rooms, telecom rooms, and fire riser rooms.
- Compliance with federal security requirements impacting design and construction processes.

Period of Performance
The anticipated timeline for the project includes issuing the RFQ on January 31, 2025; a pre-submittal conference on February 14, 2025; submission deadlines by March 12, 2025; selection notifications by April 1, 2025; contract award around May 19, 2025; with services expected to commence on June 2, 2025.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed at the Applied Research Laboratories located at 10000 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78758.
