Background
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is seeking a Contractor to create slash piles in Napeague State Park. This work is part of a long-term project aimed at restoring areas impacted by the invasive Southern Pine Beetle.

Work Details
The Contractor will create slash piles from approximately 2,500 pitch pine trees that have been cut and left in place. The work site encompasses a 10-foot buffer around the 2.3-mile Paumanok Path, covering an estimated area of 5.5 acres.

The felled trees will be limbed, cut into sections ranging from 1 to 7 feet, and constructed into slash piles according to specified guidelines. Materials under 7 inches in diameter will be formed into conical piles up to 6 feet wide and between 4-6 feet high. Larger materials can remain in place but must not obstruct trails.

Pile construction must minimize soil disturbance and adhere to safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for chainsaw operators. The contract will be awarded based on cost per acre of slash piles constructed.

Period of Performance
The contract is set to begin on March 15, 2025, and conclude on November 30, 2025. Work may be paused during June and July due to park logistics and federal regulations protecting the endangered Northern Long-eared bat.

Place of Performance
Napeague State Park, located at 164 Old Montauk Hwy, Montauk NY.
