2024-013 Solid Waste Removal - Scrap Metal / Lead Acid Batteries

Background
The City of Lewiston, Maine is seeking bids for the Solid Waste Removal – Scrap Metal/Lead-Acid Battery project. The work involves the removal of scrap metal and lead-acid batteries from the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility at 420 River Road. Interested contractors may bid on either materials or any of the two materials they may be interested in.

Work Details
The scope of work includes the removal and recycling of scrap metal and lead-acid batteries. Scrap metal includes white goods and other waste metals generated through small maintenance & construction/demolition projects, excluding engines, gear boxes, or enclosed tanks/vessels containing chemicals or lubricants.
Lead-acid batteries are secondary cell batteries commonly used to start vehicles and other devices requiring electrical current. The bid term is for three years from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension.
The bid price for scrap metal shall be based on a percentage of the American Metal Market’s Scrap Iron & Steel Price for No. 1 Heavy Melt and shall be adjusted monthly to reflect the current market price. The average annual net tonnage of scrap metal generated is 275 net tons.
The bid price for lead-acid batteries shall be based on current market pricing. All scrap metal and lead-acid batteries shall be weighed at the Solid Waste Facility by a facility employee.

Period of Performance
The contract term is for three years from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension for additional periods upon mutual agreement between the City of Lewiston and the Contractor.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at the Lewiston Solid Waste Facility located at 420 River Road in Lewiston, Maine.
