SM1675180 - Replacement of Bridge No. 1800700 on MD 5 over Hilton Run

Background
The State of Maryland Department of Transportation, State Highway Administration (SHA) has issued a solicitation for the Replacement of Bridge No. 1800700 on MD 5 over Hilton Run. The project aims to replace the existing bridge with a new single span steel girder bridge, widen the roadway, reconstruct and pave a section of MD 5, construct a stormwater management facility, place traffic barriers and signage, remove the existing bridge, and complete final landscaping.
The project also includes maintaining at least one lane of traffic on the bridge during construction using temporary traffic signals.

Work Details
The work includes the replacement of Bridge No. 1800700 on MD 5 over Hilton Run. The existing bridge is a single span steel beam bridge 31’-9” (+/-) long and 33’-1” (+/-) wide. The new bridge is a single span steel girder bridge, 40’-0” long and 43’-8 ½” wide, with 40’-8” of clear roadway. The proposed typical section includes two 12’-0” lanes and shoulder widths that vary between 8’-0” and 8’-8”. The proposed bridge will be founded on steel H-piles.
Additionally, the project involves the reconstruction and paving of 1,055 feet of MD 5; construction of a new stormwater management facility; placement of traffic barriers, signing, and pavement markings; removal of the existing bridge; and final landscaping of the project site.

Period of Performance
The bid opening for this project is scheduled for May 23, 2024.

Place of Performance
The project will be performed in Saint Mary’s County, Maryland.
