Prequalification to Bid for Chiller/Cooling Tower Replacement at Great Mills High School

Background
The Board of Education of St. Mary’s County is conducting a competitive sealed bidding process for the Chiller/Cooling Tower Replacement at Great Mills High School in Great Mills, Maryland. This project aims to replace the existing chiller and cooling tower to enhance the school's HVAC system. The St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) has established a prequalification process for contractors wishing to bid on this construction project, ensuring that only qualified contractors participate in the bidding.

Work Details
The project involves replacing the existing 325-ton water-cooled chiller with a dual VSD compressor magnetic bearing high-efficiency chiller, along with a new cooling tower, condenser water piping, modifications to chilled water piping, valving, insulation, supports/hangers, controls, pumps (primary chilled water and condenser water), and electrical connections.

The existing chiller pad will be reused. Contractors are responsible for capturing and disposing of approximately 680 lbs of R-123 refrigerant per EPA requirements. The electrical scope includes replacing the electrical distribution system for the chillers, pumps, and cooling tower while coordinating wiring and interlock requirements with the chiller manufacturer. Additionally, all associated structural steel work, roofing, and patching are included in the scope. An add alternate involves replacing existing secondary chilled water pumps P1 and P2 along with associated piping and variable speed drives.

Period of Performance
Substantial completion is expected by April 4, 2025, with final completion by April 25, 2025.

The contract will be performed at Great Mills High School located in Great Mills, Maryland.
