RFP-234-25 Design Build KSU Greenhouse NSF Grant Frankfort

Background
The Commonwealth of Kentucky, through the Department for Facilities and Support Services, is issuing this Request for Proposal (RFP-234-25) for Design-Build Services to construct a greenhouse at Kentucky State University (KSU) in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The project aims to provide a modern facility that supports four agricultural programs at KSU and enhances K-12 and agricultural extension outreach. This initiative addresses the need for updated infrastructure to foster hands-on learning, research, and sustainable farming practices. Ultimately, it benefits students, faculty, and the community by promoting agricultural education and innovation.

Work Details
The project involves the design and construction of a two-bay greenhouse measuring 60 feet wide by 96 feet long with twin-wall polycarbonate covering. Key components include:
- Demolition of two existing greenhouses on site.
- Site preparation including grading for proper drainage and erosion control.
- Construction of foundations including footings and perimeter foundations.
- Installation of a concrete floor slab-on-grade designed to support agricultural equipment.
- Installation of natural gas heating systems with associated piping and exhaust venting.
- Provision of various fans (horizontal airflow fans, exhaust fans), evaporative cooling systems, reflective shade systems, insect screen kits, and automated control systems.
- Coordination with the Owner regarding future agricultural equipment and lighting locations.

Period of Performance
The substantial completion of the project is expected within sixty (60) calendar days from the start date, followed by final completion within thirty (30) calendar days.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at Kentucky State University located in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must be registered in the Commonwealth eProcurement System. All design professionals involved must be licensed in Kentucky. The successful firm will need to submit Performance and Payment Bonds and an Insurance Certificate within 48 hours after receiving the Notice of Intent to Award.
