Honolulu Zoo Kapahulu Comfort Station Renovation

Background
The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Design and Construction, Facilities Division (DDC) is planning to renovate the Kapahulu Comfort Station located within the Honolulu Zoo. The goal of this contract is to ensure the safe renovation of the facility by identifying and managing any hazardous materials present, specifically asbestos and lead-containing paints, prior to construction activities.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for conducting a hazardous materials survey that includes inspecting, collecting, and analyzing materials suspected of containing asbestos and paints that will be disturbed during renovations. The project includes the following specific tasks:
- Conducting a hazardous materials survey to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACM) and lead-containing paints (LCP).
- Following applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations concerning building renovations.
- Preparing reports detailing findings from the hazardous materials survey including locations and conditions of identified ACMs and LCPs.
- Ensuring compliance with EPA, OSHA, and State of Hawaii Department of Health regulations regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Period of Performance
The work is expected to commence after the bid opening on February 27, 2025. Specific milestones include a pre-bid conference on January 13, 2025; requests for clarification due by January 24, 2025; and issuance of addenda by February 20, 2025.

Place of Performance
The contract work will be performed at the Kapahulu Comfort Station located at 151 Kapahulu Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96815.
