Georgia Roadway and Bridge Construction Bidding Opportunity

Background
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced significant updates to the Department’s Standard Specifications for Construction of Transportation Systems manual. The changes were approved at the January State Transportation Board meeting and go into use on April 16, 2021. The 2021 edition consolidates the 2013 Standard Specifications, 2016 Supplemental Specifications, and existing Supplemental Specifications and Special Provisions published after the 2016 edition into one concise document.


Work Details
The Georgia Department of Transportation is advertising bids for various roadway and bridge projects of construction. The Notice to Contractors lists projects, project descriptions, locations, and estimated quantities for each project. The projects include the removal of existing at-grade intersections, construction of grade-separated interchanges, installation of Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in various locations, and installation of three DMS either in the roadside clearzone or on overhead sign structures. The work also involves the construction of a new interchange located east of the existing weigh station on Interstate 16 (I-16), which would realign and widen Old Cuyler Road and Cuyler Road over I-16 from two-lanes to four-lanes in Bryan County.


Period of Performance
The period of performance for the contracts varies depending on the specific project. For example, the Georgia DOT intends to advertise and proposes to let a Design-Build (DB) project for design and construction-related services to deliver a new interchange located east of the existing weigh station on Interstate 16 (I-16) which would realign and widen Old Cuyler Road and Cuyler Road over I-16 from two-lanes to four-lanes in Bryan County.

The geographic locations where the contracts will be performed include various counties in Georgia such as Banks, Gwinnett, Hall, Catoosa, Decatur, Franklin, Hancock, Quitman, Walton, Harris County on I-85 Northbound at the Georgia/Alabama border, Bartow County on I-75 Northbound prior to Emerson, Crisp County on I-75 Southbound before US 280.
