Background
The California Department of Education (CDE) is soliciting bids for Literary Braille Transcription Services. The goal is to provide formatting, transcription, proofing, and tactile creation services for state-adopted textbooks and other instructional materials.

This initiative is part of CDE's mission to ensure accessibility for students with visual impairments. The services will be utilized by the Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division (CFIRD) and the Clearinghouse for Specialized Media and Technology (CSMT), located at 1430 N Street, Suite 3207, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Work Details
The contractor will provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to produce braille versions of literary state-adopted instructional resources on an as-needed basis. The services include:
1. Formatting
2. Transcription
3. Proofing
4. Tactile creation

All services must adhere to guidelines established by the Braille Association of North America (BANA). The contractor must ensure that all work is completed by knowledgeable individuals with appropriate certifications prior to starting their work. Specific certifications required include:
- Literary Braille Transcribing Certification from recognized institutions.
- Proofreading Certification from recognized institutions.

The contractor must also correct any substantial errors found in the products at no additional cost.

Period of Performance
The contract period is from July 1, 2025 (or upon DGS approval) to June 30, 2026, with options to renew for two additional one-year periods: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027 and July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2028.

Place of Performance
The services will be performed at the contractor's site within the United States.
