Overview
Grant Description
G7-PDN (Gulf 7- Pediatrics Disaster Care Network) Pediatric Disaster Care Center of Excellence - The formation of the Gulf 7 - Pediatric Disaster Network (G7), led by Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine (TCH/BCM), unites leading regional institutions with years of experience across the continuum of pediatric care.
This consortium encompasses a diverse socio-geographic landscape with a rich history of preparedness and response to some of the nation's worst disasters. Hurricanes, state-wide power grid failures, and the pandemic are just a few of the disasters that have solidified the expertise of partners within pediatric disaster preparedness and response.
G7 will employ its expansive network of subject matter experts in local and regional disaster preparedness, CBRN, trauma, burns, mental and behavioral health, EMS, telemedicine, education, maternal and fetal medicine, law, and ethics to improve pediatric disaster preparedness of the Gulf Coast states (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida), Georgia, and Puerto Rico.
The G7 consortium adapts expertise already engaged in work on the national level into centers that are integrated into pre-existing federally-funded entities: EMS for Children Innovations and Improvement Center; the Pediatric Pandemic Network; the Regional Disaster Health Response System; the National Emerging Special Pathogens Training and Education Center; the Radiation Injury Treatment Network; Hospital Preparedness Program recipients; and existing Pediatric Disaster Care Centers of Excellence.
Our aim is to ensure that our region can comprehensively respond to disaster events impacting child health. We will expand capabilities by leveraging the robust preparedness efforts established by our members. This will allow us to develop and disseminate disaster preparedness and response best practices regionally.
