Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: To replace the Cuney Homes distressed public housing site in Houston, TX with high-quality mixed-income housing, provide supportive services to Cuney Homes residents, and make physical improvements to the Third Ward neighborhood that promote upward mobility, self-sufficiency, and improved quality of life.
Activities to be performed: Supportive services, site improvements, relocation for residents, demolition of existing public housing units, construction of new mixed-income units, physical improvements to the neighborhood.
Expected outcomes: Provide supportive services to approximately 553 households focused on improving income, health, and education, invest in physical improvements to the neighborhood that promote economic development and spur additional private investment, develop approximately 1,115 new mixed-income units, including the grant-funded physical development of 403 replacement public housing units.
Additional units may be developed with or without grant funds as per the NOFO.
Intended beneficiaries: For Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grants, the ultimate beneficiaries are residents of the severely distressed public and/or assisted housing projects and residents of the surrounding community.
Subrecipient activities: The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
