Grant Description
Application Purpose:
The purpose of this award is to provide funding to the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in support of transit projects.
Activities Performed:
The activities to be performed using Section 5307 funding include the purchase of:
- 40 electric and hybrid vehicle replacements
- Special transportation services vehicle replacements
- Inventory asset management system replacement
- Certificates of participation payment
- LED lighting upgrades for CATS facilities
- Preventive maintenance for bus facilities and rail
- Safety and security projects, including fixed camera upgrades
- Acquisition of guard shacks/bollards
- Replacement of access and fire control equipment
- Lighting upgrades on our south corridor
Section 5339 funding will assist with the purchase of a revenue vehicle. Section 5337 funding will support rail car vehicle overhauls and provide preventive maintenance funding for bus and rail.
Expected Outcomes:
The expected outcomes of this award are to apply Section 5307, 5339, and 5337 funding to CATS projects with a goal to continue successful delivery of safe public transportation services to riders in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region.
Intended Beneficiaries:
Intended beneficiaries include the populace of the CATS service area, providing transit services to a five-county, two-state metropolitan area which includes Gaston, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, and Union counties in North Carolina, and York County in South Carolina.
