Overview
Grant Description
Purpose: By analyzing commercial revenue loss information to distribute available funding across eligible disasters, NOAA allocated a total funds to respond to the 2021 Kuskokwim River and Norton Sound salmon fisheries disaster, 2020 Prince William Sound pink and coho salmon fisheries disaster, and the 2020 Copper River and Prince William Sound salmon fisheries disaster.
Taking on an administrative leadership role, Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission would establish a spend plan, in coordination with the state, to meet the unique needs of local fishermen and related businesses in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Act, the Interjurisdictional Fisheries Act, and the NOAA Fisheries Disaster Policy.
With allocations, funds would specifically target activities, including research, that restore fisheries or prevent similar failures in the future, as well as assist fishing communities affected by failures related to the economic and environmental sustainability of fisheries.
