Description:
This agreement provides funding to Kenai Peninsula Borough in Alaska to implement its project to replace an existing leachate concentrator with a larger unit as directed in the 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act.
Activities:
The activities to be performed include purchase of the concentrator, removal of existing concentrator, modifications to the building to accommodate the new equipment, installation of new equipment, and start up and commissioning of new unit within existing building site.
Subrecipient:
No subawards are included in this assistance agreement.
Outcomes:
The anticipated deliverables are the installation of an expanded leachate concentrator that can treat the leachate and is capable of using a combination of natural gas, landfill gas and/or engine/turbine exhaust as a thermal energy sources for leachate disposal. This will allow the treatment of leachate rather than production of leachate inventory, improved efficiency, reduction in use of natural gas, reduced risk of ground water contamination, and will allow Central Peninsula Landfill to function within permit requirements. The beneficiaries of this project include residents of Kenai Peninsula Borough and the environment.
