Funds for the fiscal year (FY) 2022 SS4A grant program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to support planning, infrastructure, behavioral, and operational initiatives to prevent death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users, including pedestrians; bicyclists; public transportation, personal conveyance, and micromobility users; motorists; and commercial vehicle operators.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is offering the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Discretionary Grant Program to support planning, infrastructure, behavioral, and operational initiatives aimed at preventing death and serious injury on roads and streets involving all roadway users, including pedestrians; bicyclists; public transportation, personal conveyance, and micromobility users; motorists; and commercial vehicle operators.

Grant Details
The grant program includes two types of grants: Implementation Grants and Action Plan Grants. The Action Plan Grants require plan development using inclusive and representative processes. Underserved communities are identified through data and other analyses in collaboration with appropriate partners.

The Implementation Grants must adhere to the proposed Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines. The application due date is September 15, 2022.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must comply with civil rights obligations and nondiscrimination laws, including Titles VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and accompanying regulations. Recipients of Federal transportation funding will also be required to comply fully with regulations and guidance for the ADA, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and all other civil rights requirements.
