Request for Information (RFI) Technology and Market Potential of Photovoltaic-Thermal (PVT) Systems in the United States

ID: DE-FOA-0003465 • Type: Posted

Description

Through this RFI, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) seeks to gain a better understanding of photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technologies. SETO is looking to solicit information on PVT technology, including but not limited to business, state-of-the-art, regulatory statutes, and consumer opinion. SETO aims to summarize the information gathered from this RFI and will use the stakeholder feedback obtained to inform future program development.
Background
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to better understand photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technologies.

PVT systems combine standard photovoltaic panels with waste heat recovery systems, allowing for the production of domestic hot water and potential coupling with heat pumps and thermal energy storage.

The goal of this RFI is to gather insights on the current state of PVT technology, including business aspects, regulatory statutes, and consumer opinions, to inform future program development.

Grant Details
SETO seeks information on various aspects of PVT technology, including:
1. Current limitations and challenges facing PVT adoption in domestic markets.
2. Regions or segments where PVT has penetrated the market effectively and reasons for this success.
3. Untapped market opportunities for PVT systems.
4. Key manufacturers in the U.S. market and their manufacturing locations.
5. Comparison of financial and energy costs between PVT modules and separate PV + solar collector systems.
6. Consumer interest in purchasing and installing PVT systems.
7. Specifications and performance metrics of available PVT products, including pricing, efficiencies, warranty lifetimes, and testing methods.

Eligibility Requirements
Responses are encouraged from industry stakeholders, academia, research laboratories, state and local government agencies, and other interested parties involved with PVT technologies.

Grant Value
This RFI does not constitute a funding opportunity; therefore, no specific grant value or individual award amounts are provided.

Place of Performance
The geographic focus is on the United States.
