The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Office of Digital Humanities, in partnership with the NEH Division of Research Programs and Division of Education Programs, is accepting applications for the Fellowships Open Book Program. This limited competition awards publishers a $6,600 grant to release open access digital editions of books whose underlying research was funded by an eligible NEH fellowship or grant. The book could be a forthcoming title (to be open access upon first release) or it could be a book that was published, reissued, or printed in a new edition during or after calendar year 2010.

Grant Details
The Fellowships Open Book Program awards publishers a fixed amount grant of $6,600 to support the release of open access digital editions of eligible books. The program supports all activities associated with the preparation and publication of an open access e-book. Eligible books must have been published, reissued, or printed in a new edition during or after 2010 and must be based on research supported by specific NEH programs. Publishers are required to license the e-book using one of six standard Creative Commons licenses and must embed metadata into each e-book file according to industry standards. Additionally, they must ensure that the final open access e-book is made available through at least two major e-book distribution channels and pay authors a minimum royalty of $600 upon release.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility is limited to U.S. nonprofit publishers with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or accredited nonprofit institutions of higher education that have published or will publish a book supported by NEH-funded research during or after 2010. The book must explicitly draw on ideas from the original NEH application and acknowledge the relevant NEH award. Individuals and for-profit entities are not eligible.

Period of Performance
The period of performance for this program is 12 months, starting from the first day of the month following the application deadline.

The total anticipated funding for FY 2025 is approximately $80,000, with an estimated 12 fixed amount awards available per deadline, each worth up to $6,600.
