Through this engineering-oriented Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to encourage submissions of exploratory/developmental Bioengineering Research Grant (EBRG) applications to demonstrate feasibility and potential utility of new capabilities or improvements in quality, speed, efficacy, operability, costs, and/or accessibility of solutions to problems in basic biomedical, pre-clinical, or clinical research, clinical care delivery, or accessibility.
Background
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is issuing this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to promote exploratory/developmental Bioengineering Research Grants (EBRG). The goal is to encourage applications that demonstrate the feasibility and potential utility of innovative solutions to challenges in basic biomedical, pre-clinical, or clinical research, as well as clinical care delivery and accessibility. This initiative aims to support early-stage research that can lead to significant advancements in cancer prevention and treatment.

Grant Details
The EBRG applications should focus on demonstrating new capabilities or improvements in quality, speed, efficacy, operability, costs, and/or accessibility of solutions. Proposed research may include:
1) New multidisciplinary approaches to biomedical challenges;
2) High- or low-risk development projects;
3) Data collection for future research. Applications should not propose phase III clinical trials. The total direct cost for the two-year project period is limited to $275,000, with no more than $200,000 requested in any single year.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include higher education institutions (public/state controlled and private), nonprofits (with or without 501(c)(3) status), for-profit organizations (including small businesses), local/state/county governments, tribal governments, federal agencies, and foreign organizations. Individuals from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Period of Performance
The maximum project period for the grant is two years.

Grant Value
The total value of the grant is capped at $275,000 over a two-year period.

Place of Performance
The grant can be performed in domestic or foreign settings as long as they align with the missions of participating NIH Institutes and Centers.
