Under 25 USC 2020 funds will support the program goals for the following areas that promote tribal education capacity building:To provide for the development and enforcement of tribal educational codes, including tribal educational policies and tribal standards applicable to curriculum, personnel, students, facilities, and support programs;To facilitate tribal control in all matters relating to the education of Indian children on reservations (and on former Indian reservations in Oklahoma);To provide for the development of coordinated educational programs (including all preschool, elementary, secondary, and higher or vocational educational programs funded by tribal, Federal, or other sources) on reservations (and on former Indian reservations in Oklahoma) by encouraging tribal administrative support of all Bureau-funded educational programs as well as encouraging tribal cooperation and coordination with entities carrying out all educational programs receiving financial support from other Federal agencies, State agencies, or private entities.
Background
The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), under the Department of the Interior, is soliciting grant proposals from Federally recognized Tribes and their Tribal Education Departments (TED) to support the development and operation of TEDs.

The goal is to improve educational outcomes for students by facilitating tribal control over education on reservations and enhancing tribal education capacity building through the development of educational codes and coordinated programs.

Grant Details
The grant will support tasks including:
1. Development and enforcement of tribal educational codes, policies, and standards for curriculum, personnel, students, facilities, and support programs.
2. Facilitation of tribal control over education matters for Indian children on reservations.
3. Development of coordinated educational programs across all levels (preschool to vocational) funded by various sources while encouraging cooperation with other educational entities.

The BIE anticipates awarding approximately 32 grants ranging from $50,000 to $160,000 each over a period of two years.

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible applicants include Federally recognized Tribes and their TEDs that serve Bureau-funded schools.

Priority will be given to those serving three or more Bureau-funded schools, providing technical assistance to BIE-funded schools, and monitoring grant funds through the TED.

Period of Performance
The grant performance period is expected to last for two years from the date of award.

The total value of the grant awards will range from $50,000 to $160,000 per award, with an anticipated total of approximately 32 awards subject to funding availability.

Place of Performance
The grants will be performed on reservations and former Indian reservations in Oklahoma.
