Cross-Platform Development Kit for Mobile Touchless Fingerprint Identification

Abstract
The objective of this effort is designing and implementing a software development kit (SDK) that allows cross-platform collection, processing, and matching of fingerprints utilizing the on-device camera of Android and Apple mobile platforms. The SDK's development will include online and offline operation, handling for disconnected-intermittent-lossy (DIL) network conditions, and handling of multiple fingerprint image types and attack detection. The overall plan for the Phase I system includes selection of a cross-platform application development environment so that a single code base is implemented. Development includes image processing that may require platform-specific modules to handle camera differences, management of database and storage of fingerprint templates and collected data, and reach back to a remote network environment for off-device processing. At the conclusion of the Phase I effort, the sponsor will receive the fully documented API and SDK along with demonstration of a working application on both Android and Apple mobile phone. Ultimately, all codes developed under this effort will be released to the open source community.
Research Objective
The goal of phase I is to establish the technical merit, feasibility, and commercial potential of proposed R&D efforts and determine the quality of performance of the small business awardee organization.
