Abstract
The proposed solution aims to enhance the training and operational capabilities of the United States Air Force (USAF) by leveraging AI-driven synthetic data generation for next-generation simulation and training. This project addresses a critical need within the Air Force's Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) enterprise, particularly focusing on the 526th Intelligence Squadron (IS) at Nellis AFB. Under the directive of Air Combat Command (ACC), the 526th IS is tasked with modernizing intelligence training to meet the demands of today's strategic threats. Traditionally, the 526th IS provided advanced training during events like RED FLAG, accommodating only about 10% of intelligence professionals. Recognizing this limitation, ACC mandated a shift to robust, realistic Multi-INT virtual and synthetic training scenarios. This shift is essential for preparing intelligence professionals for high-end contested environments. Our solution builds upon the commercial platform Alchemy, used in robotics and simulation to create detailed, customizable scenarios. By adapting Alchemy's technology, we automate the creation of high-fidelity training environments tailored to the Air Force's needs. This enables the 526th IS to produce over 45 imagery outputs per day, increasing productivity by 15 times. The platform offers a user-friendly interface for uploading National Imagery Transmission Format (NITF) images, selecting and placing assets, and rendering them with AI to match contextual details and update metadata. Our AI-driven solution provides several advanced capabilities:Real-Time Scenario Creation: Generate new simulated imagery based on recent actions.Simulating Building Damage Assessment (BDA): Incorporate realistic damage assets.Simulating Movement of Assets: Simulate realistic tracks of assets like tanks.Modifying Weather and Environmental Conditions: Adjust simulated weather and seasonal conditions.Midgard AI has engaged with key stakeholders across the DoD and Intelligence Community to refine our product. The technology is at Technical Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6) and has been successfully deployed in commercial and government settings. Our solution's ease of use, flexibility, and advanced AI capabilities position it as a critical tool for enhancing the training and operational readiness of Air Force intelligence professionals, ensuring they are equipped to face modern threats effectively.
Research Objective
The goal of phase II is to continue the R&D efforts initiated in Phase I. Funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I and the scientific and technical merit and commercial potential of the project proposed in Phase II.
