Sep 2023: Rockwell Collins, Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was awarded a $12,803,968 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the Notification and Detection of Hypoxia and Helmet Mounted Display System (HMDS). This contract provides for research to investigate features and metrics required to detect hypoxic hypoxia, define the hardware and software requirements to measure these features, define the design of experiment to elicit the identified required features; integrate helmet mounted eye-feature extraction and secondary senser with hypoxia detection algorithms; and capture and analyze data collected from human test subjects to build a dataset for hypoxia detection. Furthermore, this contract provides research to investigate reduction in head-born weight for HMDS and HMDS capabilities for improved pilot situational awareness. Work will be performed at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and is expected to be completed by April 29, 2026. This contract was a competitive acquisition and one offer was received. Fiscal 2022 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $12,803,968 are being obligated at time of award.
