Background
The project is located in the Main Hospital on the campus of the Birmingham VA Medical Center (BVAMC) at 700 19th Street South, Birmingham, AL 35233. The BVAMC provides both inpatient and outpatient services to military veterans in north central Alabama and surrounding areas, currently offering 139 beds for inpatient care.

The goal of this construction project is to renovate the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) space on the ground floor of the BVAMC. The first phase of demolition concluded in April 2023, removing most existing architectural, electrical, and mechanical items. The second phase aims to renovate the shell space and provide a fully functional Sterile Processing Service for the VA.

Work Details
The contractor is required to provide all labor, materials, equipment, and supervision necessary to construct Birmingham SPS Phase II as indicated in the contract drawings and specifications dated January 28th, 2025. This includes renovating three existing cart lifts serving the SPS area: Lift T-1 Clean (Mechanical Room 9304D), Lift T-2 Soiled (Mechanical Room 9304D), and Lift T-3 Clean (Mechanical Room 5D103A).

Renovation tasks involve complete demolition and replacement of these cart lifts as specified by attached specifications '14 21 11 TRACTION CARTLIFT'. All work must comply with local, state, and federal codes and laws. The contractor must adhere to VA specifications, design guides, infection control guidelines, and all applicable codes including NFPA 99 and 101.

Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols must be followed in patient care areas with stringent policies for operating rooms. The work should minimize disruption of space function during construction.

Period of Performance
The required period of performance is 365 calendar days from the Notice to Proceed.
