Background
The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area (NCA) was designated by Congress in November 2002 to preserve and protect a portion of southern Nevada’s Mojave Desert. The area contains significant cultural resources, including the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site, with over 300 rock art panels and nearly 1,700 designs representing native cultures dating from Archaic to historic eras. Visitation to the area has been increasing, providing an opportunity for economic development and bringing management challenges.

The project area is located near the intersection of Democracy Drive and Nawghaw Poa Road, and the construction of the Visitor Contact Station aims to provide recreational opportunities for the communities of Inspirada, Anthem, and other nearby neighborhoods by offering picnic areas, interpretive hiking, outdoor exhibits, and other facilities for the community to use. It will also meet demands for out-of-town visitor recreation, specifically hiking, cultural resource history, and visitation to the NCA.

Work Details
The project includes construction services necessary for completing construction of a 3,000 square foot visitor contact facility that includes an indoor exhibit space, outdoor amphitheater, ½ mile interpretive hiking loop, and an interpretive hiking station. Additionally, the contractor is required to complete the design for the water service connection, which includes delegated design for the water service, power and fiber optics from the utility connection to the visitor contact facility.

The project aims to implement deliberate recreation planning in response to increasing demand on BLM-administered lands in Clark County while directly conserving natural resources into the future and providing additional recreational opportunities for expanding user demographics.

Period of Performance
The performance period is mandatory and negotiable. The Contractor shall begin performance within 10 calendar days after receiving award and complete it within 760 calendar days after receiving notice to proceed.

Place of Performance
The construction projects will be performed at Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area located in Henderson, Nevada.
