The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is issuing a Disruption Opportunity (DO), inviting submissions of innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of mathematical methods to systematically discover useful mathematical transformations: transformations of a system's variables and parameters to representations that make solving complex modeling problems easier, faster, and potentially more interpretable. This DO is issued under the Program Announcement for Disruptioneering, DARPA-PA-24-04. All awards will be made in the form of an Other Transaction (OT) for Prototype project. The total award value for the combined Phase 1 base (Feasibility Study) and Phase 2 option (Proof of Concept) is limited to $1,250,000. This total award value includes Government funding and performer cost share if required or proposed.

Background

Work Details
Performers will be expected to provide deliverables specific to their individual efforts, which may include:
- Negotiated deliverables
- Registered reports
- Experimental protocols
- Publications
- Intermediate and final versions of software libraries, code, and APIs with documentation and user manuals
- Comprehensive design documents
- Models
- Modeling data and results
- State-of-the-art baseline values
- Discovered transformations and their limits of validity
- Model validation data.

Period of Performance
The goal for DARPA is to achieve an award within 118 calendar days from the posting date of March 4, 2025, with negotiations needing to be completed by June 30, 2025.
