ID: W519TC-23-R-DV01 • Type: Sale of Surplus Property

Description

Item: MK45 Torpedo Battery

Description: MK 67 MOD 1 Sea Water-Activated Torpedo Battery - Total weight per battery is 574 lbs.
The Torpedo Battery contains various types of precious metals, including approximately 62 lbs. of pure silver and approximately 320 lbs. of silver chloride. The remaining weight (approximately 192 lbs.) is comprised of various mixed metals (steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, etc.) plus a fiberglass shell. The unit load configuration is Qty. 2 batteries per pallet with steel banding. Batteries will come as a full assembled unit that will require break-down to reclaim the materials contained within. A full detailed structure of materials breakdown can be provided upon request. The batteries are INERT and contain no hazardous materials. Photographs are shown below of a battery broken down into its components, however all batteries being sold in this sale will be in the intact condition shown in the first photograph.

The sea water activated battery is a primary battery that remains inert in the charged state until sea water electrolyte activates it. The shell insulating is a 1/2 inch thick, filament wound fiberglass shell approximately 37 inches long. Each battery consists of two (2) battery halves connected in parallel by two (2) 1/2-inch diameter and one (1) 1/4-inch diameter copper bus rods. The bus rods, connected to tabs on the aluminum bus plates, connect the battery to the torpedo circuitry through connectors in the after bulkhead. An epoxy coating insulates the bus rods and aluminum tabs. Each half contains 230 cells. The battery cells are stacked, longitudinally compressed, bound with rayon tape, and coated with epoxy on the sides and ends. Plastic foam filler blocks and rubber shims hold the battery compressed after assembly.

Qty.: 147 units.
