Reusable High Mach Gas Turbine Technologies

Background
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Aerospace Projects Office (APO) develops and demonstrates technologies which enable Next Generation Responsive Strike (NextRS) air platforms. APO envisions reusable hypersonic aircraft attributes providing future multi-mission strike/ISR capabilities against targets protected by advanced defense systems.
DARPA seeks information and understanding of component technologies that support the development of High Mach Gas Turbine (HMGT) engines that could be integrated into Turbine Based Combined Cycle (TBCC) propulsion systems such as concepts originally pursued under DARPA’s Advanced Full Range Engine (AFRE) program.

Work Details
DARPA seeks a better understanding of High Mach Gas Turbine (HMGT) developments to date and what technologies are needed to advance such an engine to the preliminary design level. The Request for Information (RFI) seeks information to understand four primary topics:
- What engine architecture(s) would you propose?
- What technology development has occurred on components or systems already?
- What technology development/demonstrations are needed to mature the technologies for inclusion in the engine architecture and prototype demonstration?
- What are the timelines to get to a PDR, CDR and engine prototype demonstration and any ROM costs for planning purposes only?
