Description

AFNWC/NDB is seeking information from industry regarding a wholistic solution to the PLA/Pylon refurbishment and fabrication of new PLA Walkways. The solution shall be all encompassing to include receiving the Pylons and PLAs from storage, corrosion mitigation, manufacture and replacement of the SUU-72 Pylon upper panels, restoration of the Pylon to a flightworthy condition and refurbishment of PLAs to condition Code A. All hardware is intended to meet a minimum 30-year service life. Once refurbishment is complete, the SUU-72 will be inducted into a modification line and converted into a SUU-103. The modification production line requires 9 refurbished Pylons and PLAs ready for induction no later than December 2028. There will be a requirement for additional quantities of at least 9 per year following the initial delivery for a total of 43.

Background
The US Air Force, through the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC/NDB) at Eglin AFB, is developing Bomber Weapon Interface Equipment (BWIE) to support the Long Range Standoff (LRSO) Cruise Missile integration on the B-52 weapon system.

The goal of this contract is to seek a comprehensive solution for the refurbishment and fabrication of new Pylon Load Adaptors (PLAs) and SUU-72 Pylons, which have suffered corrosion damage due to long-term environmental exposure while in storage.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for:
1. Refurbishing SUU-72 Pylons and ADU-490A/E PLAs.
2. Building new PLA Walkways and spare parts for SUU-72s and PLAs.
3. Receiving Pylons and PLAs from storage, performing corrosion mitigation, and restoring them to a flightworthy condition.
4. Manufacturing and replacing the SUU-72 Pylon upper panels with a suitable replacement alloy as per MIL-STD-1587E requirements.
5. Fabricating critical tooling necessary for the refurbishment process, including using historical jigs or designing new ones if needed.
6. Preparing Pylons for upper panel replacement following specific technical orders, inspecting for any additional damage, and repairing or replacing corroded parts as necessary.
7. Completing flight qualification and airworthiness certification of the refurbished components, ensuring all hardware meets a minimum service life of 30 years.

Period of Performance
The initial delivery of 9 refurbished Pylons and PLAs is required no later than December 2028, with an ongoing requirement for at least 9 additional units per year thereafter, totaling 43 units.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at Eglin Air Force Base.
