Background
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO) mission is to optimize warfighter readiness by exploiting technologies to revolutionize sustainment operations within the United States Air Force (USAF). The RSO strives to accelerate the delivery of critical operational solutions to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Sustainment Enterprise by positioning themselves to be the preeminent Department of Defense (DoD) solutionists that challenge conventional mindsets, push the boundaries of innovation, and generate concepts that solve problems at the speed of user need. The Rapid Sustainment Office, established in 2018, has a sustainment-centric focus to leverage both mature and emerging technologies to dramatically improve USAF readiness and warfighter capabilities. Utilizing an innovative three-step technology process, the RSO identifies emerging technologies, applies and validates them through rapid prototyping, then deploys and scales the successful technologies over time. Transitioning technology from one pipeline phase to another is an impressive feat that showcases the RSO’s ability to quickly deploy emerging technologies. The RSO endeavors to standardize and centralize new sustainment-related technologies, methodologies, and concepts to rapidly implement at scale.
