Procurement of Metal-Powder Binder Jetting 3D Printer

Background
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for the procurement of support services to be utilized by the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at their Gaithersburg, MD campus.

The Production Systems Group (PSG) conducts research in metals-based additive manufacturing to develop advances in measurement science that will enable rapid design-to-product transformation. The PSG is expanding its research to include binder jetting process-based additive manufacturing, which utilizes powder-based materials and a suitable binder for creating 3D objects.

This procurement aims to enhance productivity, efficiency, and usability of binder jetting-based high-throughput manufacturing for the U.S. industry.

Work Details
The contractor must provide a fully operational Metal-Powder Binder Jetting 3D Printer along with ancillary instruments including a powder preparation system, curing oven, depowdering station, and debinding & sintering station.

The specifications include:
- Quantity: 1 unit
- System size must fit through an 80-inch height and 64.5-inch width doorway.
- Maximum external dimensions: Height - 70 inches; Width - 44 inches; Length - 110 inches.
- Build volume must be a minimum of 9 liters with dimensions of at least 250 mm (L) x 200 mm (W) x 180 mm (H).
- Printer head resolution must be a minimum of 800 dpi, preferably 1200 dpi or greater with droplet size ≤ 3 pL.
- Productivity must be ≥ 1,000 cubic centimeters/hour.
- Material compatibility includes stainless steels, nickel alloys, copper, and titanium alloys.

Period of Performance
12 months from the date of award.
