PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE - Prohesion Spray Testing to ASTM G85 and B117   3

Background
The USDA Forest Service (FS) has a requirement for commercial services, Salt Fog Prohesion Spray Testing to ASTM G85 and B117 using long-term fire retardants. The agency's need is to test wildland fire chemicals in a modified salt fog testing protocol to better understand their impacts on aircraft operating in the environment of wildland firefighting. The results of this work will help guide the use of long-term retardants and may be added as a performance standard for future wildland fire chemical qualifications.

Work Details
The work includes conducting modified salt fog testing protocol ASTM G85 and B117 using long-term fire retardants in place of specified salt mixtures. This involves testing 8 long-term retardants listed in Table 1-1, each for a 7-day (168 hours) cycle using Annex 5 of ASTM G85. The testing also requires measuring corrosion rates, pitting depths, and making metallurgical observations. The responsibility of the test lab includes procuring all materials needed for testing, while the Forest Service will provide the long-term retardants.
