PROJECT: MT FLAP BOR 2980(1), Sun River Bridge Replacement

LOCATION: 50 miles NW of Augusta, MT

WORK: The work consists of building a new bridge about 200 feet downstream of the existing bridge, with new approach. The approaches are on embankments and MSE wall approaches. Final surfacing will be gravel for approaches and concrete on the bridge.

The project includes construction of a 3 span, 462-foot long precast-post-tensioned girder bridge with a precast concrete deck. Abutments are founded on both spread footing and piles within an MSE wall fill. Piers are supported on 10 foot diameter drilled shafts. The work may include as an Option demolition of the existing steel truss bridge upon completion of the new structure. See "Project Description" under attachments for additional information.

Background
The project is initiated by the Western Federal Lands Highway Division, which is responsible for the construction and maintenance of federal highways. The mission of this division includes improving transportation infrastructure in national forests and other federal lands.

The goal of this contract is to replace the existing Sun River Bridge with a new structure that meets modern standards and enhances safety for users.

Work Details
The work involves constructing a new 3-span, 462-foot long precast-post-tensioned girder bridge located approximately 200 feet downstream from the existing bridge. The project includes new approach roadways on embankments and MSE wall approaches, with final surfacing consisting of gravel for the approaches and concrete for the bridge deck.

Abutments will be founded on both spread footings and piles within an MSE wall fill, while piers will be supported on 10-foot diameter drilled shafts. An optional task may include the demolition of the existing steel truss bridge upon completion of the new structure. The project also requires unclassified borrow, select topping, and aggregate to be sourced from commercial suppliers that must pass a weed inspection or provide a weed-free certification after award.

Period of Performance
The anticipated period of performance spans from Fall 2024 when solicitation documents are expected to be released, through to Fall 2026 for project completion.

Place of Performance
The construction projects will take place in Helena - Lewis and Clark National Forest, specifically about 50 miles northwest of Augusta, MT.
