Background
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) intends to award a sole source contract under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation Subpart 13.106-1 (b) Soliciting from a single source. This contract will be awarded to BRAINBOX LTD to purchase a transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (FUS) system. The goal of the Learning and Decision-Making Unit within the NIDA IRP is to understand the neurobiological processes underlying fundamental and decision processes implicated in substance use disorders. Transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation (FUS) is a technique that can be used to transiently modulate neural activity using low-intensity acoustic energy. This purchase of an FUS system will make it possible to modulate activity in a wider range of potential brain targets than currently available methodology allows.
