Background
The purpose of this project is to create habitat for eastern massasauga rattlesnake. Open areas and brush piles will be created adjacent to riparian zones north of the Au Sable River. The work will require the use of chainsaws, brush saws or hand tools to open up small pockets of timber. Small brush piles, ≤ 8’x 8’ x 8’ in size, will be constructed to provide cover and foraging sites for the eastern massasauga rattlesnake.
The Contract Implementation period is the time period for the completion of all items.

Work Details
The contractor is required to open forest roads and county roads using appropriate equipment and techniques. They must cut conifer, oak, and cherry under 6” DBH and place brush piles anywhere in the Forest Road 2000 opening area. Boundaries for the projects have been selected by Forest Service personnel and are marked with a pink paint slash or pink flagging on the trees for the area. The contractor is responsible for removing all refuse produced during the course of their work. Additionally, they must furnish all necessary labor, equipment, supplies, transportation, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
