Fencing Replacement at the Giles Run Trailhead and Meadowood Connector Trailhead Parking Areas

Background
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is issuing this solicitation for the replacement of fencing at the Giles Run Trailhead and Meadowood Connector Trailhead parking areas, located in Fairfax County, Virginia. The goal of this contract is to enhance the safety and aesthetics of these recreational areas by replacing old fencing with new, durable materials. This project falls under the agency's mission to manage public lands for multiple uses while ensuring their protection and sustainability.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for furnishing all equipment, materials, labor, and transportation necessary to complete the following tasks:

1) Remove and haul away existing posts and rail fencing along approximately 255 linear feet at the Giles Run Trailhead and approximately 345 linear feet at the Meadowood Connector Trailhead.

2) Install new post and rail fencing that meets specific construction specifications:
- Fence height must be no less than 32 inches above ground level.
- The bottom rail must be positioned between 10 to 12 inches from the ground.
- Open space between rails should not exceed 10.5 inches.
- Rails must consist of 1” x 6” rough oak boards.
- Pressure-treated half-round fence posts must be no smaller than 3x6 inches in diameter; corner posts must be at least 6-inch full round posts; gate posts must be no less than 8-inch full round posts and at least 60 inches above ground level.
- Gates and gate hardware present at the location shall be removed, retained, and re-hung on new gateposts.
- Line posts should be set into the ground a minimum of 24 inches deep; corner and gate posts should be set a minimum of 36 inches deep to handle greater loads.

All posts must be set in predrilled holes with compacted soil around them to resist movement, using masonry sand if additional material is needed for compaction. Fasteners used for securing rails to posts must be smooth without jagged parts, and all wood components must be painted with black asphalt fence paint for protection against environmental elements.

Period of Performance
The estimated timeline for project completion includes: removal and disposal of old fencing within approximately 10 calendar days, installation of new fencing within approximately 15 calendar days, followed by painting of new fencing within an additional estimated period of about 10 calendar days.

Place of Performance
The construction projects will take place at two locations in Fairfax County, Virginia: Giles Run Trailhead located at 10207 Old Colchester Rd and Meadowood Connector Trailhead located at 10324 Belmont Blvd.
