Crains Island Habitat Restoration and Enhancement Project (HREP) Side Channel Expansion (Stage II)   2

Background
The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District is seeking a firm to complete the following goals: Restore side channel connectivity, depth, and structural diversity; Increase acreage protected from coarse sediment deposition; Restore wetland ecosystem resources; Restore floodplain forest communities. The work for this project has been broken down into construction phases. The first phase has been awarded and construction is complete. Stage 2, which is the focus of this effort, is the excavation of the Crains Island side channel and re-use of the material as elevated ridge habitat and/or remnant channel fill.
Large tree clearing for this effort has already been completed as part of the Stage 1 construction. However, smaller vegetation has likely taken hold in the work areas and will need to be removed as necessary to accomplish the work.

Work Details
The scope of this Performance Work Statement (PWS) is to construct Stage II of the Crains Island HREP. The work in the base contract will involve excavation of material and the construction of earthen embankments to re-establish a side channel and ridge habitat within the project area.
Work associated with optional bid items includes the excavation of new side channel entrances, fill of remnant side channel areas, and construction of stone-based grade control structures as needed to address scour concerns.
