CosMx SMI for cell imaging from Nanostring Technologies Inc.

This is a Notice of Intent, not a request for proposal. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to negotiate on an other than full and open competition basis with Nanostring Technologies Inc. at 530 Fairview Avenue North, Seattle, Washington 98109, for the following:

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)'s Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research (LMVR) (collectively Program ) is engaged in research in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence to assess spatial heterogeneity of proteins and nucleic acids in tissue slices. However, these techniques are of limited utility due to restricted dynamic range, difficult quantitation, and limited multiplexing capability. Program's clinical trials has resulted in the need for an imaging machine that is verified to have certain features and capabilities, specifically the CosMx SMI. The CosMx SMI is the first high-plex in situ analysis platform to provide spatial multiomics with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and fresh frozen (FF) tissue samples at cellular and subcellular resolution. CosMx SMI enables rapid quantification and visualization of up to 1,000 RNA and 100 validated protein analytes. It is the flexible, spatial single-cell imaging platform that will drive deeper insights for cell atlasing, tissue phenotyping, cell-cell interactions, cellular processes, and biomarker discovery.

Program has already vetted and tested with CosMx system through a preliminary run using this equipment and using Nanostring' s clinical samples. Program is currently doing research with Nanostring clinical samples, which more specifically, Program has completed most of the sample collection of their protocol, so these samples/slides are ready to be tested on Nanostring equipment. The need to be tested on the CosMx SMI instrument in order to analyze genes and proteins in these clinical human samples. Using a different model equipment would result in incompatibilities with Program's existing research samples which may potentially waste the Program's research samples and may jeopardize Program's research.
