Cedar Rapids Monitoring Well Drilling

Background
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) requires support from a private well installation contractor for the installation of four 2-inch diameter monitoring wells at two nested well sites for a project in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The wells will be about 65 ±2 feet below land surface completed in the alluvial material. The well casings will extend above the land surface about 10 feet. The wells will be installed in the Cedar Rapids well field in the flood plain of the Cedar River, Iowa. In addition to well installation, USGS needs the contractor to obtain continuous core from the wells.

Work Details
The general project scope is for a contractor to install four 2-inch diameter monitoring wells in the well field in the flood plain of the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Exact depth of the wells will be determined based on the depth to bedrock. Wells will be nested wells with two at each site. Wells will have above-ground completions with a PVC stickup of about 10 to 11 feet. Each well nest will have an 8-inch diameter by 15-foot-long lockable steel protective cover installed. Contractor is responsible for utility clearance. The monitoring well be constructed with constructed filter pack and bentonite plug above the well screens. Contractor will be required to develop the well.
