Buckhorn Boat Ramp Reconstruction

Background
The Government requires construction for the Buckhorn Boat Ramp Reconstruction project at Buckhorn Reservoir in Perry County, Kentucky. The estimated construction costs range between $1 million and $5 million. This project is part of a full and open procurement process, with the contract award based on the lowest total price to the Government. The agency involved is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the project aims to enhance recreational access to the reservoir.

Work Details
The scope of work includes:

- Removal of the existing boat ramp;
- Construction of a new boat ramp that connects to the existing ramp to accommodate both summer and winter pool access;
- Storm sewer construction;
- Concrete and asphalt pavement construction;
- Removal of an outcropping along the road to the boat ramp.

Additionally, a weathering shale exposed rock face will be treated with shotcrete to prevent deterioration. To improve drainage, concrete ditches, curbs, and flumes will be incorporated to prevent erosion on the embankment slope. Runoff from adjacent mountainsides will be intercepted to reduce storm flow across the boat ramp pavement areas. A bid option may include asphalt milling and overlay for part of the existing trailer parking area.
