EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATION AND NATIONAL LAB UTILIZATION ENHANCEMENTS   13

Modification 5 to NNJ13ZBG001N is to notify interested parties this NRA has been updated to include two new focus areas on the commercialization of space. The first focus area is to solicit proposals for nontraditional use of the International Space Station (ISS) for commercial and marketing activities, in order to continue the agency's efforts to develop a sustainable economy in low-Earth orbit (LEO). NASA has reserved a set amount of resources (cargo, crew time) available to U.S. entities for purchase, that are intended to enable these commercial and marketing activities. In the second focus area, NASA plans to enable private astronaut missions to the ISS, and solicits proposals for this activity. NASA defines a private astronaut mission as a non-NASA funded U.S.-led commercial mission, consisting of private astronauts (professional or tourist), conducting activities on the ISS (or in a commercial segment attached to the ISS), and transported on a U.S. commercial launch vehicle dedicated to this private mission. NASA will identify up to two candidate private astronaut mission opportunities per year based on currently available scheduling information. Proposal due dates are as listed in the NRA.
