This program is aimed at improving the durability of the ceramic thermal barrier coatings (TBC) in siliceous environments by developing and employing complimentary technologies that increase the strain tolerance of TBCs exposed to calcium magnesium aluminosilicate. Pratt & Whitney, in collaboration with University of Minnesota and RTX Technology Research Center, proposes to use chemistry, structure and coating architecture to improve part performance in heavily exposed CMAS laden environments.
