(21089988) Design and Install Drainage Water Diffusers, B168 and B704, PSNS

SOW: Design and install a effluent diffuser system for pumpwell 2's (PW2) drainage system. This includes adapting existing piping to allow for the installation of the diffuser system. Diffuser system shall: be constructed out of corrosion resistant materials (for continuous submergence in salt water), dissimilar metals shall be isolated from one another, designed with minimal maintenance required, meet the needs of code 106's requirements for this system, not interfere with docking operations at DryDock 2, not interfere with PW2's stoplog installation/removal, not be in the flow path of PW2's main dewatering pumps, and have protections to prevent water being syphoned back into the drainage system. PW2's drainage system currently discharges through a 16" ductile iron pipe, above the waterline. To be more environmentally friendly, the shipyard needs to extend this discharge line below the waterline (below mean lower low water), and to provide multiple smaller outputs locations to minimize the environmental impact when PW2's drainage pumps are discharging to the bay. When PW2's drainage pumps turn off, there is a known issue of a large column of water, which hadn't fully been pushed out of the pumpwell, flows backwards through the drainage pumps into the drainage system. It is not the intent of this project to correct this issue, but the design of the effluent diffuser system shall prevent this slug of water from syphoning bay water into the drainage system. Code 106 has modeling software which can validate whether or a proposed design meets their requirements. Code 106 shall be consulted to validate designs.
