Description
The Mobile Maintenance Equipment Systems (MMES) program is designed to enhance the readiness of combat and combat support systems by providing comprehensive maintenance capabilities to the Army. This initiative aims to improve battlefield repair capabilities through a system of interconnected maintenance systems distributed across various levels and echelons within the Army. MMES supports Soldier Lethality, Next Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV), and Long Range Precision Fires (LRPF), while addressing specific operational gaps. The program includes several components such as the Metal Working and Machining Shop Set (MWMSS), Fire Suppression Refill System (FSRS), and Armament Repair Shop Set (ARSS), each contributing to a holistic repair capability in diverse environments.

The Metal Working and Machining Shop Set (MWMSS) is a key component of MMES, providing advanced metalworking capabilities through both additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies. This system supports rapid repair at the point-of-contact, significantly enhancing the fabrication capabilities of Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). Designed for transportability by air, rail, and sea, MWMSS ensures deployment in forward areas where immediate repairs are crucial. Its production is managed by the Joint Manufacturing Technology Center in Rock Island, Illinois.

Another critical element of MMES is the Fire Suppression Refill System (FSRS), which addresses a unique gap in the Army's ability to refill fire suppression systems on combat platforms. The FSRS is a modular system deployable in various environments, providing essential support for vehicles like Abrams tanks and Stryker vehicles. Produced at Rock Island Arsenal, it plays a vital role in maintaining operational readiness by ensuring that fire suppression systems are fully functional.

The Armament Repair Shop Set (ARSS) enhances the Army's capacity to perform maintenance on weapon systems ranging from small arms to artillery. This mobile system allows for forward deployment in austere conditions, enabling quick repairs that return critical weaponry to operational status. By consolidating multiple shop sets into one mobile unit, ARSS reduces logistical footprints while increasing efficiency. The Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania oversees its production, ensuring that this capability remains robust and adaptable to changing battlefield needs.
