2034A - Procurement of Ammunition, Army
Description
The "Items Less Than $5 Million (AMMO)" initiative within the Army's procurement activities focuses on acquiring various types of ammunition essential for both training and operational purposes. This initiative ensures a diverse range of munitions are available to meet different military needs, encompassing several specific ammunition types with distinct objectives and applications.
One key goal is to support military training and marksmanship through the acquisition of specialized cartridges such as the .22 caliber Ball Long Rifle Match and .300 Winchester Magnum. These cartridges are used extensively in training environments to enhance soldiers' shooting skills and maintain readiness. Additionally, the program includes the procurement of .30 caliber Blank cartridges, which are utilized in ceremonial functions by veteran organizations, highlighting their role in non-combat scenarios.
Another significant objective is to bolster operational capabilities with specialized munitions like the .338 caliber Norma Magnum and .300 caliber Norma Magnum rounds. These are designed for use with precision sniper rifles, supporting both training exercises and combat operations. The program also addresses unique tactical requirements by procuring 12-gauge breaching rounds, which enable soldiers to effectively breach doors with minimal collateral damage during missions.
Furthermore, comprehensive support for ammunition management is ensured through initiatives like Ammunition Program Support. This effort enhances the efficiency of ammunition lifecycle management by providing necessary systems and services as mandated by Department of Defense directives. Additionally, funds facilitate foreign weapons training ammunition procurement, enabling Army units to train with non-standard munitions in preparation for diverse operational scenarios.
